The Wilberforce Award

$1 million to go to a young person under 30 who can impress Dick Smith by becoming famous through his or her ability to show leadership in communicating an alternative to our population and consumption growth-obsessed economy. Dick will be looking for candidates whose actions over the next year show that they have what it takes to be among the next generation of leaders our incredible planet so badly needs.

Second:

So the best thing is to divert resources and capital from countries already (over)developed to help countries and people with less development to develop, so they ultimately too will stabilize pop. growth.

Third:

Sustainable growth is possible, once we convert the economy from producing waste and using non-renewables, into an economy that implements cradle-to-cradle and uses renewable resources only. The living standards can increase, w/o causing pop. growth, and that is sustainable.

Growth itself is not a problem, it depends on the circumstances. Population will stabilize once there is enough welfare and social wellbeing. Population growth is mainly associated with countries in between underdevelopment and development, because during devolment, healthcare is causing less starvation, but only later on the birthrates drop (this is partly cultural, and partly due to poverty, more offspring = pension!).
