@handidrummed You're right, its not the same, but if you have to sacrifice some of the feel to get the desired effect, you may think its worth it. To be fair, I felt the rewards weren't worth the effort when I had the remotes, so, I know what you mean. Take my advice though about tightening the top cymbal; you'll probably find that most helpful. Keep in touch!

@Dcdrmwthme I've had remote hi-hats through the years to deal with some physical issues I have (I have Cerebral Palsy) but never to use for things like this. I don't think it feels the same if you're stepping with an auxiliary hi-hat and playing another with the sticks.

@handidrummed Obviously, if you're lucky to have a remote hi hat, then this is a non-issue, lol. I was lucky to spend some time with Thomas Lang last summer, and he inspired me to go get one. I did, and after a few weeks, I found it too distracting, so I sold it, lol...

@handidrummed Its not the easiest thing to do, especially if you step the hats after the stick hit. In this groove, the hats would be stepped before the stick hit, and thats much easier, since they'd be closed by the time you hit it with the stick. If you need to step it after the stick, then tighten the top cymbal a bit, so it wont wash too quickly. Aside from that, just work on not lifting your foot at the same time as you hit it.  Easier said than done, but thats really all you can do here

Any tips on inserting the hi-hat foot? I have found that if I play the hi-hat with the stick and then try to insert the foot immediately after, I don't get two separate sounds, I get an open hi-hat instead before the foot comes down of course.
