Dungeon Keeper 2 Vista/Windows 7 Fix

The ultimate fix guide for the crashes and black screen error in Dungeon Keeper 2 running under Windows Vista and Windows 7. I attempted many fixes that I read online, but ultimately had to work out my own which resulted in this guide. This all fixes both the black screen issue as well as the random crash after about 20 minutes.

@Kennyemo Try creating an image of the cd and using a virtual drive to install the game. Sounds silly, but I 'think' it worked for me.

mine doesnt even turn on it says- a running program isnt compatible with certai visual elements of windows. and does even start the game :( i really wanna play does anyone know whats wrong???????

my game keeps showing that it is not inserted but it shows that theres a set up for it :s but when i click play it says please insert game dics, does anyone know what to do :( i wanna play itso badly best game ever

Don't know if this fixes the crashing but to fix the black screen its best to disable threading optimalisation in Nvidea control panel also if you use a multicore processor, run the game then ctrl+alt+del and go to taskmanager>processes>dk2.exe right click on that and you have an option to make it run on cpu 1 only. mark that box and the black screens are fixed.

thankyou! I am playing DK2 on my netbook on windows 7 and although it worked perfectly with everything on high and turned on, I had to turn hardware acceleration OFF otherwise I would get a black screen ingame. But adding "-32biteverything -disablegamma" fixed it and I can now play with hardware acceleration ON.

If anyone is having an issue with the 3D rendering (blackness in game) then this is how to fix

Before doing the below make sure the game is set to the lowest resolution setting!

1. windows key+R

2.type regedit

3. Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Bullfrog Productions - Configuration - Video

4. Find the file called Engine Id

5. Double click the file and change the 2 - 4

6. HAVE FUN!

I am having a 3D rendering issue where blackness is seen in game and the more things move the more it takes over the screen. still no fix
