Cancellation of processions or demonstrations by the Kenyan police is often accompanied by what critics describe as barbaric violence. And as NTVs Jane Kiiyo reports, the countrys law enforcers have a long way to go if the lessons from the streets of developed democracies is anything to go by.

  • It goes to character. The top cops issue orders to injure maim and even kill citizens and the police go out and execute. There's no excuse for this behavior; not even that oft over-used excuse that they are underpaid.....

  • our thuggish law enforcers need more advance retraining. beating up harmless people esp women is uncivilized. it is true when i attend demos in london, police just watch n when things look like they will turn violent they step in to restore order calmly n peacefully. what happens in kenya is just barbalic n annarchy

  • Fuck damn Kenyan Police !!!

  • Two things can happen to you while in Kenya, either you are robbed by thieves or beaten and robbed by police! The worst part is a police slapping you on the face infront of the people, when you try to defend yourself...more harm is guaranteed.

For the thieves you can defend yourself....but....for the police...dont think about it!

  • Are you kidding? Okay then where is tank man? That's right he disappeared mysteriously never to be found again? China is THE WORST example you could have used. FREE TIBET!!!!!!!

  • When are we going to act? the post election violence showed how the police blindly follow orders from politicians, the result was extra-judicial killings on a large scale, the government has done nothing, they continue to function with impunity just as the politicians do. The police need to be enforcers of the law, to protect & serve kenyans but in my beloved kenya the police are criminals who protect & serve politicians only, salute & follow orders to beat, torture & kill the innocent

  • the bucks stops with saitoti. blame the top guy who does not seem to know any better.

  • KENYANS WAKE UP. Put your tribe aside and lets join together. Lets do like Chinese in 89. Watch on youtube a documentary called the TANK MAN and hopefully it will inspire us. Am simply sick and tired of being sick and tired of these senseless and barbaric politicians. Corruption, killings, insecurity, injustice, poor education, poverty........ . JOIN ME pls.

  • Lesson, never ever have a national police force!!!! Policing is a local arrangement with a local mandate and answerability. Not even the proposed regions should manage a sizeable police force. Policing should be limited to a Sub Location, if not smaller

  • And the professor of the vice comes out lamenting, ' I myself was surprised....meoh!meoh! nyef, nyef, just spare us the talk and no walk with your thugs' Imagine beating an old helpless woman? kenya police you are a cursed lot .. you need repentance ..

  • Kenyan cops wataamuka I know they saw these pics and i believe they r ashamed. They think having guns and teargas canisters they have all powers ?? Now the media crew they have to watch their backs coz they will start beating them too coz of taking these pics. 'U r warned' but i love the job im encouraging them to continue with the good job. Take those pics/video show the public and make them feel embarrased this is the only way to stop these cruelty actions of kenyan police. No one trust them

  • The difference between a cop in Kenya and a Cop in A developed country is their level of education and exposure in the world. 90% of the police force in Kenya could not make out of high school with a decent grade( And that is why their salary is low). Their anger & animosity for the citizens emanates from the fact that they see themselves as failures in life which they are told when they first get admitted to Kiganjo ( police College)
