@haz939 actually you are partly right these are very complex it actually takes hours probally even days in order to matcch the size of your screen and now they do not cost that much

Those things can do 20000 h. It can do some more hours. A friend had one of those. The picture is really good. It can beat most modern projectors. Only the really expensive projectors can beat that thing.

even if it dies the parts that stil work are worth good money.

I think it was around $20K in 1990. Now it's not worth much at all :-)

yeah, the difference between the ecp4500and 4501 is minimal. you get about 5mhz more in bandwidth and it has brighter tubes.
some digitals are good but its hard to beat the picture of a crt. colours are so good

Actually, I think the only difference with the 4501 is that it has the auto convergence installed. The later 4500 and 4501 used the brighter and sharper 07MS tubes as opposed to the SD-187.

i have a sony 2030qm and an ecp4500.
ecp4500 looks better than most digitals i have seen. i play 720phd and it looks awesome. It's the tightest focus ES you can get. it's beed modified. when my friend with high end video camera comes by ill post a video.
these crt projectors have assets that digital fixed panels don't rival. eg. variable resolution, black blacks, white whites unless you use a xenon arc lamp. higher colour pallete than most digitals. Longer life span.

I started with a mint Sony 1031Q and an iScan Ultra line doubler. That's what got me hooked.
Also had an ECP4501 that I sold to my Cousin. I think the picture was even better than my current Barco projector.
