  • Excellent work on part of the speech pathologist. Style of reinforcement is immediate, graceful, well defined. No unnecessary frenetic-sounding joy at each reinforced moment.

  • I work in ABA programs professionally and also have a 14 yr old son who was nonverbal. He started prompt and in 6 months he can say 2 word combos and basic isolated sounds he was never able to elicit in 12 yrs of intensive ABA and speech therapy. It is a good fit for him and has changed his life!! Our kiddos are all different but you must be open to all possibilities

  • This clip is really helpful.

    Thanks

  • Great video that clearly explained PROMPT to me.

  • I suppose it should be added that for those with bad speech production & low functioning autism pushing the mouth into the correct position for sound production is very helpful. I should know, I have a nephew who speaks quite well who took hundreds of thousands of trials to learn his first word & he speaks better than most high functioning children with autism. He had such procedures as grabbing the mouth done in mid-90s.

Still thinking in schedules of reinforcement is key too. Very key.

  • Pressure is comforting to Dr. Temple Grandin, but how do you know what that means to anyone else with autism? Keep in mind that Temple wanted complete control over the pressure.

Sally? I know you. I know both these ladies & they are both cool. I've seen both these ladies speak in person.

Still, I think in terms of behavior modification so I guess I'm hard to convince to think in diverse ways though I did take an 18 week class on Transdisciplinary interventions for those with autism.

  • Prompting is cool & so is schedules of reinforcement. You would think after listening to all these code words people would actually want to hear a behaviorist talk & once you get their lingo then you understand the conversation & it helps you know what to do. Then you can argue all you want & learn more other than conjecture. As opposed to a 2 yr old having a fat mouth that gets lean with use of the mouth muscles as fat mouths get lean at that age with maturation. He talked good before & after.

  • great clip
