James Kalm once again risks life and limb to bring viewers exclusive unauthorized footage of one of this season's most anticipated gallery openings. Since his first public recognition with "Dog Shot" a looped video piece of canine assassination, Tom Otterness has provoked controversy. Maturing into one of America's most prolific sculptors with an impressive string on monumental public commissions, Otterness is one of contemporary sculpture's most recognizable practitioners. This exhibition debuts several of his monumental recent pieces, as well as the new Marlborough Gallery Building Chelsea.

  • asdiffd,

Yes it's disgusting, however in Otterness' case I believe in redemption. The greater indictment should be against the New York cultural establishment who applauded the act and encourage further exploration... because it's sensational, and "art should transcend morality".

  • @frankenfoamy Protected under the first amendment. Bullshit, but true. Last I checked, the Supreme Court (minus one judge) ruled that crush videos are protected. Those consist of a woman walking in a room with high heels, and literally crushing a puppy/kitten/rat/hamster/whatever with the heel til it dies. All for a fetish film. It's contradictory. You could NEVER do that to a child. Child abuse, well, animal abuse is a crime to. But, doesn't matter. And this is why I do not like the human race.

  • Did he get a jail sentence and if not why not?

  • ah! this is my uncle! i love you tom :D

  • go man, go!!!!!!

  • I am now doing similar (art booths) and hope to have as good a career as his. As a figurative sculptor with a sense of humor, he's a hero of mine.

  • I remember back in the early 80s Otterness was selling palm-sized plaster casts of his figures at a downtown street market for $5. I bought a bunch. I need to dig those out of storage.

  • Thanks James!

  • BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AWESOME!

  • mr. snow and 'pantheon of great artists' are merely your assumptions. mr. koons is a worthy object of study, as are many others. my insights have reflected your hostility, not my knowledge of art. your negative projection of my character is a mirror for you to face.
