The R1 is not too heavy for enduro riding, which is what this is. Nick Sanders went around the world on an '05 R1, the ultimate Enduro.
The R1 is probably 65 lbs lighter than the BMW R1200 (~445 lbs) and only ~40 lbs heavier than a KLR650 (~335 lbs).
Considering the R1's performance, this is an amazing best of both worlds bike. I think the forks on these are pretty flexible for switching out with other bikes as well. Very cool build. Thanks for posting.
