Cruise Missile Test in India

India tested its supersonic cruise missile Brahmos' land version on Sunday.

The research team termed the test "successful."

This is the second launch this month and third this year for the army.

In the earlier test this month, the missile failed to hit the target. The army kept the results of this test under wraps although it was deemed successful.

Brahmos, named after India's Brahmaputra River and Russia's Moscow River, is an anti-ship missile, but it also has the capability to hit land-based targets.

The three-ton Brahmos, which is 8 meters in length, has a range of 290 kilometers.

Brahmos missiles can reach a speed of 970 meters per second, almost three times the speed of sound. It can be launched from land, ships, submarines and aircrafts.
