North Atlantic Humpback Whales mate and migrate to Samana Bay to have their calves, getting them strong before the trip back north. We were on a liveaboard for a week to snorkel with these magnificent creatures.

  • You seem way to close to have complied with the laws and regulation. Are you a marine biologist, do you have a special permit? The focus was on the calf, isn't it harassing the animals? When are we going to leave them ALONE!

  • Whale snorkeling trips have been available for over 10 years, run by licensed naturalists. I was on a liveaboard where 13 other people and I were taught what to do and what not to do. We dropped in the water and the whales came close to us out of curiousity and play. If the calf came close, we had to move out of the way or get hurt. But Mama is smart. One time when I snorkeled back to the boat, mother and calf passed about 4 feet under me. Incredible.
