In 1977, Scott Hadden & Marty Manning produced a TV pilot at Ch36 in Austin to follow NBC's new show, Saturday Night Live. They figured Austin had a great entertainment base from which to draw, an audience eager to tune in, and an advertiser base that had been untapped. Radio personality Marty Manning was the host of the show and Sonny Carl Davis was his sidekick. Vince Bell was the musical guest on this first and only 'The Further Adventures of...'.

This song appears on Bell's brand new CD, One Man's Music and his 1994 CD Phoenix, produced by Bob Neuwrith. It has been recorded by Nanci Griffith and Trout Fishing in America and performed by countless artists, including Lyle Lovett. A musical of that name was based around his life and songs.

  • Thanks csx4, glad you enjoyed. It is on my first CD, Phoenix, but I just re-recorded it for the new CD, One Man's Music that came out at the same time as my autobiography. Enjoy.

  • I first heard this on Bruce Bryant's Little Old Show..., one of my all time favorites.

  • Great to hear this song again. I used to watch you play at Anderson Fair. Funny thing, but hearing it after thirty years it dawned on me that this song sounds a little like "Plush" by the Stone Temple Pilots, released some fifteen years later. Probably a coincidence, but still...

  • I can't stop watching this. I must've come back to it a dozen times in the past two days.

I was a child in Austin in 70's and have never forgotten the 'vibe' that that town had; it was palpable even for a kid. This video is like walking through a door to 35 years ago. Everything about it is perfect. Perfectly crafted lyrics over a haunting tune. Simply marvelous.

  • Well, this one will do for sure. I appreciate the gifts that you share. Good luck. I hope to catch the one man show somewhere out there in the wide world.

  • Vince, I'm reading your biography and it is excellent. Do you have anymore archive footage from the Houston and Austin days between '77 and '82?

  • Awsome tune.Thanks

  • Vince you are the coolest. I came across your music from being a fan of Lyle Lovett. To see you comment back to your listeners makes you even cooler. I was so happy to see you're a Texas guy lol. If you're ever bored to tears click on me maybe I'd be lucky enough get a few pointers from you :D

  • Bet if You get in touch with Vince He will help You figure it out. He is a very Nice Person and easily approachable.

  • This is a terrific song. Having figured out most of the guitar part, does anybody know how to finger the Em chord in the fifth position ?
