May 22nd 2011 a tornado swept through North Minneapolis leaving a lot of destruction in it's wake. It's been almost 2 weeks now and though much of the debris has been cleared away there is still a big mess to clean up. only 2 poor souls died in this catastrophy (Unlike Missouri) We count our blessings and attempt to make do.
I humbly apologize for the lack of actual footage of the tornado itself. I was busy cowering in the basement at the time.

  • Some fun! Not as utter destruction as Joplin, but bad enough. One of my friends, just under the tornado, says it sounded just like a freight train.I'm just a few blocks from the worst of it at Penn and B'way. If we'd have sneezed it would have been on top of us. Last weekend I was at Knox & Lowry (hey, we're neighbors!), working with the city volunteer crews moving debris of blown off roofs and a few of those broken garages to the alleys for city pickup. Does that make me a N Mpls house flipper?

  • @audadvnc Thanks for volunteering. We may have spoken Saturday. There were a few of the local volunteers helping to clean up the alley behind my house, I was hauling wheelbarrows of wood to the general pile at the end of the block. The foundation has some cracks and I think it may have shifted but the insurance adjuster and the engineers say no. The cracks are going to be fixed by the insurance company though.

If you do happen to see a couple of fish trying to hock a 3d brain poster pm me.

  • Tornado Alley was more of a Tornado Road this year.

  • @AnneOnAMoose I'd never seen anything like this before, except on the news. It's really shocking.

  • Glad you're OK Max. Thanks for sharing. Do you think your fish, realizing that the tornado makes the perfect cover story, ran off with your 3D brain poster?

  • @premed2 Hmmmmm....I hadn't thought of that...Now that you mention it, Goldy did have a certain cold aspect to her personality. And Bubbles was positively slimey!

  • The missing fish is the weirdest part of your video. What are the chances of that? Essentially nil - yet you saw it yourself. Is your house still on its foundation OK? I've seen a few that were shifted off their foundations and will have to get pulled down. And like you say, this has been a unexpected opportunity to meet folks in the neighborhood.
