@anastasiyaaa01 The people that turned around to talk with him were just saying that they didn't know that he spoke Mandarin, it's cool that he chose to study it, etc.
Really he had just been speaking in tongues.
Nick here claims he did the same; he's a very spiritual person, drugs or not. Same with Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun (Nicks other band). His story is another though.
Speaking in tongues really isn't a language; it's God speaking through you without even knowing it sometimes.

@anastasiyaaa01 he's talking about just speaking in tongues. Its something that does happen to some people; I had a friend once who was just talking before Church started one day under his breath. Then some people turned around and started talking with him- in Mandarin.
Apparently my friend had been speaking Chinese while not even knowing it. What he was saying was even more interesting; he had been reciting verses from the Old Testament.
