@blaze007Z It's not a stupid question...the main duties of GM's are weapon maintenance and training, but we do get a lot of trigger time. When teaching a weapon system, how are you supposed to teach them, if you have never shot it? Granted most of the time the guy directly behind the gun may be a BM or SN or whatever, but GM's jump on there too. I was gun crew on a cutter for two years, and shot many a rounds from different guns.

my grandfather was a gunners mate in the Coast Guard during the vietnam war, proud to have him as a grandfather. next year i'm joining..

this might be a stupid question but do gms get to fire the weapons too? or do they just work on fixing them and train others how to use them?

i plan on going to the coast guard is the gunners mate basically chilling in the armory with the guns and teaching people how to shoot firearms?

GM's and BM's once in a while we'll get an MK primarily it's the GM who mans the weapons.
