Picking Liberty Caps on roadside verges during an Indian Summer many moons ago. Captures the essence of mushroom picking, as the peaceful, harmless and carefree past time it is.

  • @Psilocybinism - well that's me buggered then, as I don't have any of those. Maybe I could use my teeth ha ha

  • I mean that that's there principle survival technique. Seeing the shrooms up, guarantees there future as they've already released their spores by then. Slightly plucking up some mycelium I really don't see as the major detriment people say it is. But I really don't know for sure - it's such an under-researched area. More research is needed. (And I don't think most people would be bothered to use scissors - especially in abundant fields). But it does sound a wise idea I grant you

  • thanks for that - I shall check the fungi literature I have - be interesting to see if you're right. My expertise stretches pretty much to libs but I still find the other mushrooms fascinating.

As for the scissors - perhaps it should be a modern practice. It kind of removes you though from the ancient activity of using your fingers to pluck them which feels so natural. I do always get a twinge of guilt if I bring up some mycelium by accident, but the spores are being released are the future

  • @azwilko23 - normally the season would be over by now, as the weather would usually be distinctly colder then it is. However this season they seemed to have begun very late, and from what I've heard are still popping up in reasonable numbers. Still worth looking about for sure.

  • @Mindscapology - Thanks Mindscapology. Big fan you your work too. It's wholesome isn't it :) - I still enjoy watching it myself. Just wished I'd been able to find a few more that day the camera was rolling.

  • @GhibliFan1 Oh and your cat is very wise. In fact your cat sounds familiar - were you ever on Spirit Garden?

  • @ Aztechyian Classic! i might try that, i doubt grazing on the field like a cow would attract any more funny looks than i get already surely?

  • @ Aztechyian, Thanks for the info buddy, oh and i only meant fingernails i am not taking scissors with me! =)

  • Loving your work my friend, i think the 'shroom you were looking at at 05:00 is a parrot wax cap (Hygrocybe psittacina) the young ones look quite like the Lib's.

I would like to ask a question if i may? I had heard that we need to snip the stem just above where it joins the mycelium network to prevent damage and to ensure more fruit in the next flush, can you tell me if this is another myth like flicking and picking?

  • Im guna keep my eyes open for these little babys from naw on iv seen them loads ov times an neva Eva thought they was THE magic mushroom are they still out this time of year

  • Excellent, satisfying, video!
