Whats the difference? well one is round and one is flat... well yes, but there is more. Jaclyn, Lehman's Product specialist is back again helping to shed some light on the dilemma of round and flat wick lamps.
NICE post, I use flat wick lanterns, Like the Dietz, I have learned that the cheep versions of these lamps are not safe and are designed for use as an ornament.
My WT Kirkman lamps work great, they are = to the Dietz. I use them primarily for heat in my out buildings. As a young boy my father had me carry the lantern as it kept me warm. He carried the warm milk from the cows.
@LehmansHardware It's unfortunate that it is so expensive and no argument that it's the best kerosine available in the United States as far as purity and freshness. But, if you use these lamps a lot, it can be pricey.
I spoke to the Aladdin Lamp corporation myself last year and was told that K1 has a self life of about six months. Also, heat will degrade k1 to some degree. The Aladdin Lamp fuel may contain stabilizing ingredients to extend its shelf life far beyond that figure.
@LehmansHardware Some say that the wicks are not as good a quality as in years past. That may be true. It may also be true that the quality of K1 kerosine used in these lamps aren't up to standard, clogging the wicks and shorting their usable life. I believe all new Aladdin lamps come with a wick trimmer. The flame spreader is removed and it's inserted around the wick to trim the carbon deposits and straighten the wick. Always remember to allow the lamp to cool before cleaning.
@southernrain1000, the information given in this video is for various round wick lamps we sell, we have several European made models that are not Aladdin. Do you have tips for trimming an Aladdin wick? We always appreciate more info to pass along to our customers in new Aladdin videos. You are correct, the Aladdin lamp oil is currently close to $10 a quart and most of the Aladdin lamps burn 9-12 hours on a full tank.

I do recommend using them with some ventilation.
