Honda Motor Company says its stool-sized mini-personal transporter may be the future of indoor transportation in Japan.
The unicycle unit, called U3-X, is shaped like the number eight and can be steered by leaning in the direction the rider wants to travel.

Well, what they can do is incorporate a manual mode where you pedal, and the device still maintains balance, then switch to automatic (pedal-free) mode whenever you want. That way, you can exercise or just ride at your own discretion.
