A bad day in the islands: drowned surfer, 2 boat wrecks and a lost kayaker. From the lanai at PBYC we saw a sail boat run aground at Magic Island yesterday. The owner, a friend and her dog got off the boat safely but the boat is a wreck and is now being salvaged. Lesson learned, always have an anchor handy.

  • I don't see Featured Cruising Channel box :(

  • @NSMeta Sorry about that. Its this new channel design changeover that YouTube is doing. The Featured Channel box only shows on the Channel View page.

  • So sad she lost her boat. Just last fall another one went into the reef right where surfers paddle out in front of Hilton. I just put stern anchor and rode on my shopping list. If you are anywhere near rocks etc you have only seconds to deploy an anchor.

  • @crashkahuna Gives a whole new meaning to "Think fast!" We have seen several boats on the rocks at the entrance to Ala Wai. Both sides of the channel, usually trying to enter at night. The marks are almost invisible against the city lights and Pi'ikoi Ave. looks a lot like the channel on a dark night from seaward. With the Kona conditions it can be VERY dangerous.

  • It just breaks my heart to see that boat up it's side like that...poor thing. I hope this guy wasn't a live aboard. New cam looking and sounding super. I've seen all your vids and when I see a new one pop up it makes my day. Keep the great vids coming.

  • @darfirst The owner and her friend received minor injuries in the incident. Yes, unfortunately, the boat was her home. The good news is that she had insurance. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
