Every year, San Jose State Vietnamese Student Association uses our manpower to organize an annual culture show. The culture show's goal is to preserve our Vietnamese traditions, showcase talent, and promote teamwork. Friends, family, and community members from all diverse backgrounds can come together to enjoy an extravagant night hosted by the dedicated members of SJSU-VSA.

The Culture Show Committee of 2011 decided to name the show "Dấu ấn thời gian" or "Reflection of Time". This year's theme focuses on the three stages of life--childhood, young adulthood, and adulthood. The show will portray the struggles we face when living in America as well as how we identify and maintain our Vietnamese heritage. Throughout various performances, our Culture Show Committee wants to send a significant message to the Vietnamese American youth that we will always remember and cherish our Vietnamese root.

In the beginning of the journey, the show will depict the childhood phase of the Vietnamese-American youth. We have to rely on our parents, and we cannot make any important decisions on our own. We begin to question our identities as we perceive the clash between American culture and Vietnamese tradition. Through the second phase, we have become college students, ready to leave home and establish some independence. This is the stage where we learn how to be more independent and responsible for our own future. Along the way, we realize how important and difficult it is to preserve our Vietnamese roots, especially in America. However, with the help of our friends in the Vietnamese Student Association, we start to understand and appreciate our Vietnamese heritage through numerous cultural activities, community services and much more. In the last stage of our lives, we enter adulthood and begin to have our own families and establish our long term careers. We reflect on our past and appreciate how much parents, teachers, and friends have helped us shape our success. Throughout the three stages of life, we realize the important role of Vietnamese culture in our hearts and appreciate every step of our journey as proud Vietnamese-Americans.

Our members have spent five months learning theoretical arts that reflect our heritage. We reach into the roots of our culture through dances, fashion shows, singing acts, and skits. Not only do we gain the public's appreciation, but we also learn teamwork, leadership, and companionship through the months of preparation. Please join us on this new voyage "Reflection of Time" to experience our spectacular show and travel through the gate of time to trace the origin of our Vietnamese culture.
