  • tempo is awsome!!!!!!!!! 5/5

  • Lakota West - Great Job. Double-tonguing is difficult in this march while maintaining tone quality at this tempo. It rushed a little through the first time through the trio. Good job on the dynamic contrasts, especially through the first run of the trio, allowing the woodwinds to be heard. To those that criticize the tempo, Fillmore never marked the score with a definitive tempo, rather left that for director interpretation. Mostly, this march is played at 136-144 bpm.

  • speed is great! Yall are doing great! is this a symphonic or concert band because if its concert yall should be in symphonic band playing this. This is supposed to be played this fast. Filmoore directed this himself and this is how fast it was. but they did speed it up at the end which they really didnt need that much.

  • pedal to the freakin metal they were hauling

  • @robko626 Yes! Finally someone agrees. Also, a lot of HS directors think that playing LOUDER is playing smarter. I didn't say ALL, but a lot of them do.

  • To those that criticize this tempo are incorrect. Henry Fillmore's original score did not post a tempo specifically on purpose to allow the director to use his discretion for his group. I agree with 5561drum, Fillmore never conducted at this speed, however, the tempo interpretation of this march was accepted by Fillmore. The average tempo for American's We, is 144, the same as Stars and Stripes Forever by Sousa. Note: both marches are similar in structure.

  • #1 Mistake of high school band directors: playing too fast. This sounds like cartoon music. The kids' playing is great, but fast isn't always better.

  • excellent, and I think this tempo suits the piece. Just seightread it today on euphonium at this tempo and it's very fun.

  • honestly, i didnt think the tempo was that bad. i thought it was in a pretty good spot.

  • The march tempo is supossed to be 160 (As fast as possible but no faster - Henry phillmore)
