Duane Allman.. I wanted to pay tribute to one of the best players ever. His lead and slide playing on this one is so emotional. Duane had perfect intonation, whether bending strings or playing slide. The coricidin bottle is really the best for electric guitar. I played this through my Marshall1959SLP.

  • Damn! You can play, and then some....That's a really really sweet sound you coaxed out of that guitar - I felt like I was in a dream, so you've NAILED the essence of the solo. BRAVISSIMO.

Here's to Duane SKYDOG Allman -

  • @xneapolisx Thanks!

  • Thanks. My opinion is open E is the easiest to work in. You don't have to rethink the neck as much. The key of D would be the 10th fret, The key of A would be the 5th fret etc. It's also a raised tuning, so there's more tension on the strings, as opposed to open G which is slack. Lastly, the root is on the bottom in open E where as open G gives you the 5th on the bottom, unless you remove it like Keith Richards did.

  • @gatner1 In open E you also have that 4th interval on the top 2 strings, which is a great rock n roll sound, like the intro to Dust My Broom. Hope that helps.

  • That was incredible.

  • First off, your solo is great! A question regarding alternate tunings for slide playing ... Given that the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings in standard tuning give you an open G chord, wouldn't that allow you to hit almost everything you would want to hit? Or are you limiting yourself by not playing the 1st, 5th and 6th strings?

  • @agubser07 Derick has a great style for sure. Warren went the other way and does a great job playing slide in standard. Duane plays like god no matter what tuning he's in lol.

  • @gatner1 Not only does Derek not use a pick, but he plays everything in open E, sliding and fretting. Very unusual to fret in open E, but it allows him to switch seamlessly from fretting to sliding in the same context, much like Duane did in this solo (although Duane played this one in standard tuning). Duane did most of his sliding in open E as well, with Dreams, Layla, and Mountain Jam being the exceptions.

  • @agubser07 Hey you've got some nice slide licks going on in your video! Derrick doesn't use a pick at all, even for regular playing, and that's a great sound too.

  • @gatner1 I stand corrected. I guess I'm just used to watching sliders like Derek Trucks who has a much more exaggerated right hand motion.
