  • @rapidrip Perhaps they are using Ramguard drive pins? They are for use with pressure treated lumber.

  • so when finishing a basement do you build the wall and lift it up or shoot each stud into place while standing up?

  • You're absolutely correct. The amount of misinformation and incorrect installations out there astounds me. Hilti sells the correct fasteners for this situation that are coated to resist oxidation and corrosion caused by the chemically treated wood. Type X-CP Sill Plate Fasteners.

I used to work for Hilti, inventors of the Powder-Actuated Fastening System.

  • Normal steel powder actuated fasteners are not suitable for fastening pressure treated lumber. Not only will they corrode but even worse, hydrogen embrittlement will set in and you can break all the nails with your fingers. A good building inspector would demand that all these fastenings be replaced with something compatible with PT lumber.

  • agreed... I wouldnt call it framing 101. misleading. call it framing tips or something.

  • Helpful!.....NOT, i would have been done framing the basement in the time it took you to say pretty much nothing
