Now, the cemetery commission in Weymouth is proposing to spend $180,000 in money collected through the community preservation tax to shore up aging stones in the Reed Cemetery, on Front Street, just south of Cushing Street, and Elmwood Cemetery, on Union Street, between Hubbard Street and Groveland Avenue, over the next four years. Donna Walcovy doesnt see death when she looks at Reed Cemetery, which was established in 1769. She sees life. Walcovy, a professional cemetery conservator, said that gravestones need to be nurtured and repaired if the deceased are going to be remembered.
