Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Video: 2nd Attempt

So The Cleveland Board of Tourism was not happy with the first video that I turned in. In fact, they said that upon viewing it, three of the board members moved away.

They insisted that I turn in a proper Cleveland tourism video, otherwise they will pursue litigation.

So I was really planning on buckling down and giving it my all this time, but there was a "Rock of Love" marathon on VH1 last night that I didn't want to miss, so I cranked this video out in even less time than the first one. Roughly 35 minutes total.

Despite this, I'm rather pleased with how it turned out, and I think they will be too.

I'll put Detroit up against ANY second tier city in a contest of all of those attributes. Atlanta? No. no! Dallas? No. Cleveland? No. Austin? No. Houston? No. Phoenix? No. Charlotte? No. For as crappy and pathetic as the city is, the Detroit region is one of the richest cultural depositories in the whole country. I would complain about the weather too but it allows for 5 ski resorts within 50 minutes of downtown, sledding, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Whatever u like, it's found in Detroit!!!

We get tours in Detroit like Paul McCartney, Madonna, Rolling Stones, Justin Beiber, Beyonce, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Pro Wrestling, American Idol, Disney on Ice, Blue Man Group, you name them, they come to Detroit. Yeah, Detroit sucks in a lot of ways, but Detroit is still a better place to be than most. It's not New York, LA, or Chicago, but when it comes to cultural attractions, sporting events, music, education, or just cool things to do, Detroit is SOLID on the top end of that second tier.

One of the best African-American Museums in the whole country. The Palace, Ford Field, and Comerica Park are all TOP NOTCH athletic arenas. Fishing and boating on The Detroit River, Lake St. Clair, and Lake Erie. The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village is a world class museum. Greektown, Mexicantown, Poletown, Dearborn. DTE Music Amphitheater, Meadowbrook Music Festival (amphitheater), Freedom Hill Amphitheater all bring in the top acts from around the world;

Most of us from the Detroit region include U of M, a 25 minute drive, and MSU a 1:15 drive, as part of our "sports complex". Both are regular top 20 fixtures in football, basketball, and hockey. Oakland University has made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament in the past 10 years. Oakland Hills has hosted the U.S. Open six times and The PGA three times. Detroit is a stop on the Grand Prix circuit. We have two NASCAR events at Michigan International Speedway, just an hour from Detroit.

I'd like to add that Detroit has a world class orchestra and opera house with The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Opera House. World class venues like The Fox Theater, Music Hall, and The Fisher Theater, which all attract world class talent from Broadway plays, "A" list performers, and international stars. Detroit and it's suburbs have TWO medical schools at Wayne State and Oakland University. Detroit may be ugly, but to say that it has nothing great to offer is simply not true.

Dude I've been to Detroit several times- I have family in Dearborn. Detroit is a sad city that isn't even frightening as much as its pathetic. Yes, there is great history in Detroit- but its covered by terrible poverty, a non existent economy, and most of all, a lack of pride. The residents lost all pride in their city- and it left Detroit hallow in almost every area. No need to try to bash cleveland, but Detroit is in its own category
