This is such a heavy song. I mean it is a beautiful song, but the subject is so heavy. Those guys who were there in Vietnam didn't even know who their enemies were! They called them Charlie! And so many died out there, but for what? It was just for nothing!

My Dad came back and he said he should have been awarded the Purple Brain medal. Many soldiers came back physically but not mentally and this is one of the saddest results of war.
What the hell, I just found out that it was only number one hit here in holland, in Amerika it didn't get higher as 56 and the UK 29 and Ireland 19... I thought this would have been a hit in more countries...

i love this song so much! my grandfather was a nzi in ww2 as a hitler youth at the end of the war (he was 16) after being captured by the americans in berlin in 1945 he was kept as fresh meat incase of another conflict arose by then he was 18 then when vietnam happened he was one of the first to go in (voluntarily) when he was 40 he had to be taken out because he was too old and my father always told me he thanked the US for letting him live and im so proud to be an american :)

I cried the first time I heard it, the song's beautiful and yas the subject is very heavy. The war was pointless, though. RIP for anyone who has served their country and has their life taken, not only the Americans, either the Vietnamese. I'm actually torn writing this cuz when writing about this kind of things, making me think of the photos from the Vietnamese war. The man who burnt himself alive (and just keeps sitting!), the consequences of agent orange, the many people who have died Respect!
