Varnish is used in woodworking projects to protect the wood from the environment, and applying varnish means sanding the area and using a paintbrush to apply the varnish itself. Find out how water-based varnishes are easier than oil-based varnishes to clean up with help from an independent contractor and carpenter in this free video on applying varnish.

One mistake in this video info, the oil based dries a lot slower then water based, not faster.

can't help but comment....don't sand against the grain...rarely is your project so small, brush back into the work you just did quickly to reduce overlaps - especially with waterbase because it dries so fast....large flat areas you can roll on and tip off with a brush...single strokes , lay it on, don't brush in

I did exactly as you taught but my water based varnish dried too fast , so I've got an uneven surface. Now I need another video how to strip the old one.
