Literally across the road from Huka Falls is The Craters of the Moon - a geothermal park - one of a number in this part of NZ. A bizarre place - it reminds us of our local nature park at home but with steaming vents and craters which bubble and hiss like a gigantic kettle is boiling under the surface.
Here you meander well quite precariously meander along boardwalks with the surrounding landscape literally cooking all around you. Myles is fascinated - luckily he's safely strapped into his stroller - nevertheless he attempts to reach up and touch and grab the steam which swirls around us as we trace our way along the pathways, stopping many times just to try and comprehend what's happening beneath our feet.
Up until now we've kind of thought the ground we walk on day to day to be a 'still' place but now know for sure it's far from still.
