  • Great stuff! I saw Marty and Steve do a set in Portland back in '96 or so...nobody knew any of their material and they kept screaming out for Milky Way. After about 5 songs they played it and left! It was a sad day for me...

  • That's too bad. Marty played just under 3 hours this night to a very small, but very appreciative audience.

  • Yes I caught the show in Seattle and it kicked ass. One of the most intimate and enjoyable nights of listening in ages for me. I'm a huge fan of The Church (actually tripped my first hit of acid to Heyday about 15 years ago!) Anyhow, Marty's solo stuff stands on its own even more so on Nightjar than ever. This guy is one of the best going today for songwriting prowess (no pun intended). The Mood Maiden's (Tiare and Davida here) create a great vibe to caccoon Marty's songs live.

  • Yep...It was a cool atmosphere to see them. If everyone that came had known the material and loved the band (instead of one single) it would have been awesome. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I noticed a handful of true fans there and bumped into some older guys that worked at a record store who were responsible for turning me on to the band years before. How crazy that we shared that moment. There weren't too many people there.

  • Looking at Marty's squeeze Taire(sl), she's like " Fuck man, not another Church song"

  • @originalminujk , perhaps you have misunderstood what I was saying some 2 years ago. My point was that The Church are just as good as they were back in 1994, or when I fist saw them back in 1988 on the Starfish tour as they are today. As far as me being a real fan, we'll lets see. My first purchase from The Church was "Heyday" on the WB label and I bought everything else before Starfish came out. I have seen them live 8 times, own records and was even in the fan club in 88. ENOUGH SAID!!!!!

  • @digmacdiggydoo Thankfully, they are still around and are just as good today as they were back then.

WRONG!! Better today then they were back then. The playing and Steve's voice have improved. Are you a real fan?

  • Wow, he's put on a good bit of weight. I haven't seen him in years. Had a massive crush at one time.. wow...

  • I'll kiss you to death

  • is it me or does Marty channel a bit of Bob Dylan when he sings

  • just did an acoustic cover of this

does Marty play this on the El Momento Descendo album - I know he does "A new season" (off Starfish) on that

does he still play "As you will" live?

  • I remember that day in Portland as I was there. They were playing outside by the waterfront in support of Sometime Anywhere. It was a sad day, for real fans of the band and for the band itself. Peter was gone and Arista was not doing much in support of the band. Thankfully, they are still around and are just as good today as they were back then.
