First of all gold was worth zero before we put a value on it. Additionally if you do hoard a bunch of gold you have to pay to keep it somewhere unless you want someone to break in kill you and your family and take it. If there was social chaos even for a short period are you assuming people will be walking around with gold to pay for stuff. Its just impractical and not safe. In case of chaos the gov will come & take your gold. There are laws to this fact. Your just holding it for someone else.

These gold commercials do not convince me to buy gold from other companies. However, it does convince me to buy gold from more annonymous sources.
