Seat manufacturer IMMI SafeGuard discusses the issues behind placing lap/shoulder belts in school buses. Examines crash protection, the seat belt habit, increasing ridership and behavior.
I'm only 16 and if there were seat belts on buses, I would be in support of it. I studied a lot about car seat safety for infants, toddlers, and children- rear facing, forward facing, and booster seats. If they were to make any car safety to be a law, I think it would be more beneficial to have a law where kids were rear faced up until age 2, just like the AAP recommends (I would call for a law that said up to age 4, but people would think that would be too extreme, sadly).
@BurlingtonNorthernRy i always wondered about that, i'm glad someone else thinks this way too. you could break your neck from unbuckeling your seatbelt upside down. personally, i don't think seat belts are a necessary.
The same old bogus excuses for not wearing seat belts in passenger cars are recycled against school bus seat belt use. While file is a possibility, it's low probability.I'm not sure hang upside is the problem made out to be. Is clearing bus in an unsafe location in a belt equipped bus than 1 not equipped with belts? Especially with the greater possibility with more injured student in the none belted bus. Damn change come so hard for some people. How did man kind ever get beyond the Stone Age?
I am from Zanesville Ohio. A freind of mine just lost her six year old son due to a school bus accident on 6-2-2010. A seat belt would have saved his life as he was thrown across the isle of the bus. I only pray that we can get seatbelts on ALL buses throughout the country sooner than 2012. The very day Kasey was killed congress voted for seatbelts on buses with only 1 vote against it. Too late for Kasey but I pray it will be soon enough to keep this from happening again. RIP Kasey Ryan King
@BurlingtonNorthernRy sure and which would you rather help...36 students with major injuries due to lack of seat belts or 36 studetns with minor injuries because seat belts prevented them..
4 seats, 10 seats, 30 seats.... seatbelts save lives. you're arguing hypothetical aftermath situations here, where school bus accidents are the constant fact.
@BurlingtonNorthernRy using that logic regular cars shouldn't have seatbelts or carseats for infants for that matter, because if a car goes up in flames it would take too long to get out.
Ignore the possitive stats if ya want. At least i know in my state (where seatbelts are manditory) my kids will be safe.
What do you do if the fuel tank catches fire? Then what? Or clearing the bus if it's in an unsafe location, such as wrecked on a highway, or train tracks?
@BurlingtonNorthernRy but you'd be alive. instead of being thown like a rag doll all over the cab into the metal bus or other students causing severe injury, or god forbid being thrown FROM the bus and then being crushed by it or ran over by other drivers on the road involved in the crash or trying to avoid it.
i think i'd rather be hangin upside down then run over tyvm.

The girl shown in her low-back booster seat had a bad fit shoulder belt. It's too low on her shoulder- see it at 1:28

@77MommaBear96
A car can hold at the most 5 people (2 front, 2 or 3 back)
Other hand a Type C School bus holds about 36-78 passengers.
Okay which is harder to have people to
A escape; B rescue people from quickly.
You see the obvious issue.
