And yet the origional poster is wearing a wig, and the other commenter has scary looking hair...lol.

I've made my own paste:
Pour one box baking soda (1 pound) into a blender. Add 1/8 cup water. With blender at low speed, slowly mix in more water until desired consistency. I recommend pancake batter-thick.
Pour paste into an empty shampoo bottle, leaving some room to shake the paste when it settles between applications.
Apply shampoo paste on very damp hair, diluting and spreading it evenly and quickly. Formula makes about 6 ounces. Double ingredients for 12 ounces.
Good luck!

@MsGlamourGirlInc I quit using shampoo because my hair would get greasy every day. I don't use this method though...baking soda can be quite harsh on the scalp.

Yall really need to stop with all this chemical free nonsense....are u going to stop using body soap, lotion perfume, dish detergent, laundry soap, toothpaste, etc....use common sense, how can something be linked to cancer if dont even what truly causes most types of cancer??

Yeh! For one year I only used water - ok but different - not the body - come my son's wedding thought I should use shampoo - reluctantly - and have been wondering what to do that was better than water since - will try it and see

I haven't used anything on my hair for the past three years and it looks and feels great, plus I get comments from others saying how nice it looks. All I do is, when under the shower, is wet my hair and massage it in the same way I would if it had shampoo in it. Don't use conditioner either so I'm saving lots of money, keeping my hair free of all those chemicals and helping the environment since the products are not being added to the water.

We didn't use these products before the 20th Century? Is that seriously an argument? Average life expectancy in the US wasn't even 50 years before the 20th century. What a joke

Yes, what's with her hair?

"seals the follicles"
INCORRECT
The vinegar restores your hair's natural pH and helps to close the cuticle.

put the baking soda mixture into your hair BEFORE you get your hair wet. It works SO much better that way. Also, a drop of rosemary essential oil in the apple cider vinegar mix helps the smell, and is great for your scalp.

@vwwarrior I agree but I know a close friend who has been using the same DIY and she has beautiful hair. I will begin tonight! I have thick, long brown hair, sometimes dry, (my friends love it) and will update you on any progress.

I tried the shampoo and I don't think it worked. It just felt like I was pouring water on my hair, even after shaking it. Am I doing something wrong? :/
Unless you mix baking soda with WARM water immediately before use, your solution will be room temperature, which when poured over your head will feel ICE COLD during a warm shower.
Hasn't anyone else encountered this problem?

@crayola77777 I've encountered the ice cold chill feeling. I've sort of just gotten over it. Or gotten used to it. I also have a friend who makes a paste of it, so that she never has to douse her whole head with room temp. water. A good way to go too. Good luck!

@noirxwingz try using less baking soda. rinse it out thoroughly. and definitely condition with the vinegar. perhaps try giving your hair an olive oil conditioning treatment every now and again too.
