Fascinating stuff and lovely to look back. I remember when I was about 9 until about 13 years old, every summer I'd go to our local rec ground to watch the Bottons Funfair arrive and build up and my favourite was always the waltzer. I always wanted a job and when I was 13, my mum finally agreed - although it was only one of the outside tent games - prize straws and roll a ball down into the right chute. Sadly it was only 4 or 5 days working evenings after school but I loved it. :)

Majorca Blimey, that's a bit of a long haul? I have so many stories about the business, quite a few that would raise a laugh, even amongst the flatties! The wife keeps nagging me to get them written up in some sort of order, but you know how it is, one day I'll get round to it. Good to touch base though, and great to share a few misty eyed moments. 'Mind yer head' yes, that was a common one. We had a Brummy lad working with us called John, and his favorite was 'Motivate!' to try get us moving.

@muckybobbies Hi mate. Check out my website frontierland-remembered.co.uk and if you want to send me some of your stories, I'll gladly add them onto that site for you. Mark.

I have built up a few waltzers in my time on the grounds for a number of different showmen. It's a good eight to ten hours work, even with a good team. Neat video though, brings it all back to an ageing gaff lad who can no longer do the work due to an injury, not sustained on the fairground. Makes me want to get my gloves on and set to it again, miss the teamwork and the banter!

@muckybobbies You and me both mate! I now live in Majorca and I so desperately want to get my overalls on and get back into building and pulling down. Pulling down is better, we could have the machine down and loaded, hitched up and ready to hit the road in 3 hours! And like you said, the banter...lol. Remember it well..."MIND YER F***ING HEAD!!!" lol
