You've probably seen something like this before, but never this well. ArcAttack uses two eight foot Tesla coils and a robotic percussion band in order to play music.

In addition to the interview with one of the ArcAttack members, John DiPrima, that weve conducted for our series on crazy inventors and inventions, weve also made sure that youll be able to enjoy renditions of Popcorn and the Doctor Who theme via audio-modulated freakin thunder.

For those who want to skip the interview, Popcorn starts at 3:50 and Doctor Who starts at 6:45

Youll have to excuse the fact that we set up the camera about 100 feet from the actual Tesla coils. Any closer to that and we were getting serious interference which was throwing off our cameras focus - and doing god knows what else to them. You can see some of the effects from seeing the coils light up fluorescent lights from 15 feet away.

Check out ArcAttacks Web site if youre interested in finding out more information. http://www.arcattack.com/

Oh, one last thing: As always, dont try this at home.

  • Where was this performed? Looks like the Maker Faire in Austin.

  • Yep, that's where we filmed it!

  • Why is there a guy that thinks hes a jedi?

  • lol, he's holding a fluo light tube.. Have you noticed that it lights up with no power sources? Just like the tubes located on the tesla coils' pedestals...

  • This is Impresionant Technology and syncronization.

  • Achievement Unlocked: Win at life.

  • @david1991rules4life Something really cool. There is current being transfer via induction. The AC induction field energizers (excites) the phosphorus coating and gases in the fluorescent tube(s), making them glow.

  • @david1991rules4life magic thats why GE had tesla ruined

  • How does the electricity you can't see travel to that light tube? :O

  • So, what kind of igbt's are you using in those coils? it must be some heck of a brick bank! Also, what's the fres of a coil that size?

  • lets add a strobe and a black light to the act
