In December 2006 The Cornell Ranger, developed by the Biorobotics and Locomotion Lab at Cornell University, set a new record for the farthest distance traveled by an autonomous "4-legged biped" walking robot. The CU Ranger walked a total of 1km and is capable of much more.

Small pedantic point - you call it a biped, but I count three legs...
