Don't go changing, to try and please me
You never let me down before
Don't imagine you're too familiar
And I don't see you anymore
I wouldn't leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times, I'll take the bad times
I'll take you just the way you are

Don't go trying some new fashion
Don't change the color of your hair
You always have my unspoken passion
Although I might not seem to care

I don't want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are.

I need to know that you will always be
The same old someone that I knew
What will it take till you believe in me
The way that I believe in you.

I said I love you and that's forever
And this I promise from the heart
I could not love you any better
I love you just the way you are.

  • Paul,

I wonder if you face the same dilemma as me and other YouTube piano people, i.e. what to do if you don't have a singing voice to go with the keyboard talent? Play only the accompaniment, try to sing anyway, or reproduce the sung part in the right hand?

Listening to Art Tatum again recently, I noticed how he "hinted" at melodies with every 2nd or 3rd note, so that we supply the missing notes in our heads. (Perhaps cognitive psychologists could explain). Wonder if that makes sense?

  • @hhelpmaboab I can normally get the whole tune out and build the harmony around it. What is a problem is the number of tunes which just don't work on a keyboard because they depend upon subtle slides between notes and expression across the duration of a single note.

  • Please do a tutorial for this when you get some free time Paul. I would be extremely grateful. This is a masterpiece. Bravo.

  • Wonderful rich chords, nice keyboard sound, way to go to keep the tempo constant during the whole song. After hearing this, I had to change the way I play it :p Good job!

  • @hamsterluv69 Thanks. Changing tempo is a very strong effect which I largely avoid using.
