Skyview DL Riley Bockmier, LB Jabari Marshall, QB Kieran McDonagh and WR Forrest Russell were all selected as the New Athlete Players of the Week for Week 13.

GSHL Football Player of the Week

Skyview played a near perfect game last Saturday in the Tacoma Dome on their way to a 38-14 Semifinals win over then 12-0 Lake Stevens. The Strom had so many players step up and have monster games. We felt that four of them stood out as the cream of the crop and thus awarded multiple Players of the Week for the first time.

Senior DL Riley Bockmier was part of the Strom defensive front that put pressure on Vikings QB Jake Nelson all night. Bockmier finished the game with a pair of sacks and recovered a fumble caused by fellow D-Lineman Willie Lopez. Bockmier was not the only Skyview D-Lineman to recover a Vikings fumble however, on the first offensive play of the game, Senior Dylan Bratlie recovered a Lake Stevens fumble caused by DB Hayden Schuh, setting up the Storm's first touchdown of the game. Although Bockmier did not recover this fumble, he was the first person to signal a Skyview first down, well before the white hat had figured it out!
Junior WR Forrest Russell made his presence known right after the Bratlie fumble recovery when he hauled in a 36 yard pass from Kieran McDonagh down at the 2 yard line. Two plays later Parker Henry was in the end zone and Skyview led 7-0. Russell would catch 9 more passes for another 108 yards, one of which was a 16 yard touchdown reception from McDonagh in the 3rd quarter. Russell finished the game with 10 catches for 144 yards setting a Skyview single game record for receptions.

Along with the 16 yard touchdown pass to Russell in the 3rd, Senior QB Kieran McDonagh also threw a 7 yard touchdown to Riley Henderson early in the 2nd quarter to put Skyview up 14-0. Later in the quarter, McDonagh ran in his first of two touchdowns, this one from 26 yards out, making several Vikings defenders miss along the way, putting Skyview up 21-0 on the #8 ranked Lake Stevens squad. McDonagh would later add a 1 yard touchdown run early in the 3rd quarter to put Skyview back up by 21 at 28-7. He finished the game with 339 passing yards going 22 of 31 on the night with the 2 touchdowns and just one pick. He also added 65 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 9 carries, for a total of 404 yards and 4 scores.

Throughout the entire game while McDonagh and his offense were doing just about anything they wanted to, over on the defense, Junior LB Jabari Marshall was in on just about every tackle. Marshall finished the game with 13 solo tackles and a handful, or a couple of handfuls of assisted tackles as Skyview's defense held Lake Stevens to just 72 yards rushing and no scores on the ground and forcing Lake Stevens QB Jake Nelson to pass the ball 41 times, almost twice his season per game average.

Bockmier, Marshall, McDonagh and Russell were selected as the GSHL Football Players of the Week for Week 13 of the 2011 season.
