This tractor was part of the first run of six specially modified John Deere Model "50" tractors shipped by John Deere to the Barber-Greene Company in Aurora, IL on April 1, 1954. Most, if not all, of these first six Model "50" Barber-Greene tractors had "pilot lot" cast wheels (Roman numerals scratched in the green-sand foundry mold rather than the usual part number found on the later units). Research indicates that only 94 of these special Model "50" tractors were shipped to Barber-Greene in the mid-1950's to be used to build the Barber-Greene Model 550 Windrow Loader.
