Many music and dance scholars believe that busy port of Cadiz in Spain had ships arrive from India with dancers who entertained travelers. These dancers became known as Gaditanas, as long ago, Cadiz was known as Gades or Gadir. The similarity in the two dance forms, Flamenco and Kathak, especially in the complex compound rhythms, makes it easy to believe that Kathak was a contributing factor in the birth and development of Flamenco.
