Etosha National Park, November 09, 2010. Elephants meet at the waterhole. Silver elephants are already mudded, brown elephants came from another park area where they dusted with brown dust. After greetings the brown elephants mud themselves and quickly turn silver color.

  • So much interesting behaviors here! The trunk touching thing is like a handshake. Is the elephant on the right sleeping? He touches trunks then falls asleep! :D

Yes, it appears that many of them just sleep standing at the waterhole. We watched them for hours.

  • @OldElephant100 Sleeping right in the afternoon sun, so lazy... :D I love these beasts. I guess you zoomed a lot? How far away were you?

  • @mattsnow81

There is only 40 m distance from the lookoff to the actual waterhole, the elephants standing in front of it make this distance 25 -30 m. My camera is wide-angle so it just looks sometimes that we are further that it really is. Sometimes the elephants just come within ~10 meters.
