Created in 1977 for film-making class at Bayview Secondary School. Filmed on 8mm with soundtrack recorded on cassette tape. Copied from 8mm to 8mm with bad results ( yellowing , etc ) and then copied to VHS in the '80's. Won Honourable Mention at the 1978 Harborfront International Super-8 Film Festival in Toronto.
There was nothing 'digital' back then. The 'Rats In the Cellar' title shot was done by filming down through an agitated fish tank onto a back-lit construction paper title board. The energy bursts from the guns were unwrapped flashbulbs wired to a 9-volt battery through the trigger. The smoking face of the droid the hero hit in the head was created by a person sitting off-camera blowing cigarette smoke through a tube!!

  • Thanks for posting those information tidbits in the video description. Keith Lennox was instrumental in creating a lot of the shots, like pulling the cameraman on a wheeled dolly, etc.

It was the most fun I ever had in high school.

  • I wonder what ever happened to the original copy, Itwas so much clearer than the crappy copies we had made at the kodak lab.

  • Post from Bayview forum--Forgot how creepy this was.

  • How did you find this so soon after it was posted ??

    lol

  • THe best super eight film of the seventies film class!
