I wrote this during a songwriters workshop given by singer-songwriter Lori Carson October 2002. The exercise was to trigger lyrics using phrases written on flash cards and the phrase I chose was "A photograph of the two of us." I recorded it over a couple of months early in 2003 on my Yamaha MD-8, an 8 track MiniDisc home studio. I recorded the drum part twice and mixed them together, reversing the left/right mix of one of them. I also recorded the 12 string twice and split them right and left in the mix, a technique I use frequently. The lead was done using slide on a standard electric guitar run through a Guitar Pod on the Eddie Van Halen "Eruption" setting. The keyboard part is sampled Chamberlin, which sound almost identical to Mellotron. The bass was run through the Bass Pod on the "Dub Bass" setting. The vocal was run through the Guitar Pod on the "Endless Cavern" setting. The arpeggios on the outro were done on Chapman Stick run through the Guitar Pod on "Endless Cavern".
