The town looks common and busy with all of the usual hardware to noodle stall variety. But up the hill and away from the Government's "Crush those who dare to oppose us" message lies the historic and traditional Lu Ping festival commonly known as Hot Balloon Festival which is celebrated during the first full moon of November by the Pa O, one of the many ethnic groups in the region.
Handmade paper balloons carrying oil laden torches for lift carry pallets of pyrotechnics. While rising hundreds of feet over the mountains these beautiful balloons rain fire down on the dancing and singing crowd .
This madness is too good to miss. If you've been to the Full Moon Party than you're ready for this.
A must see festival for the intrepid and determined traveler.
"Are you okay?"
" Yeah, this is the first" <<< meaning his ballon/team will get the first prize.

Eles que são felizes, podem soltar seus balões sem ter que ficar se escondendo.
Quem sabe um dia isso acontecerá aqui no Brasil.
