It soon won't be. It plans to become the powerhouse of indochina by generating clean energy from the mekong river delta i.e hydro-electricity to sell to its neighbours or the rest of the world, of course this isn't possible without foreign investment. This, the government believes will bring the country out of poverty and improve the quality of life there. So laos is changing too along with the rest of the world.

Luang Prabang is a very nice place to relax and enjoy the beautiful buildings in the small city. But there is a lot more to explore in Laos :-)
