@muni86 I mean, how do you know if it about to go out of range? You fly it a long distance from you.
I'd be worried about loosing it. :)
-
sounds like you have a more than capable nle setup.
my guess is that the youtube compression/converter does not like what it sees and/or is just not capable of delivering a good result.

@tapper45 recorded with Canon MVX200i MiniDV Camcorder
Alparysoft Deinterlace used with Virtual Dub, saved to AVI Mini DV codec (Cedocida Mini DV Codec)
Ulead Video Studio 11: edited video saved as AVI, XVid Mpeg4 codec, best settings according to a tutorial website, quantizer 2
I see no quality loss at my footage, even a better quality than the recorded one because of deinterlacing
A Mini DV Camcorder should be the best recorder of all, because of the big file sizes/ almost no compression

i think the (artifacting) has a lot to do with the way the original video was rendered (compressed) before dl'ing to youtube.
what program and settings do you use to edit, render and produce your videos?
i use sony vegas pro 8 to make my more pro looking hd stuff but i have made short clips with the free windows movie maker that people think were professionally produced.
some people spend a lot of money on pro editing software but don't use it correctly and get substandard results

that's strange.
i don't have anything here right now that i could try to replicate that effect.
i have experimented with different lenses to minimize focal distortion of the horizon but never experienced focal distortion from the prop.
120 deg of view is about the best middle ground i have found for reasonably wide view without too much focal plane distortion.
i use a sony sn777.
yt conv comresses some people's vids horribly but not others.

@tapper45 maybe the increase of brightness at the helicopter video is caused by vibrations or the shadow of the rotor???
-
@tapper45 horizon flattened out: yes this happens when the rotor rotates, I don't know why
I have powered the FPV system with the flight battery but I think that's not the reason. Immediately after switching off the motor the effect increases!!! Please watch the landing of "Best Wind Turbine Building Video"
Do you use the factory settings of the WDR700 camera?
artifacting: That's caused by the Youtube Converter or too less video range, or do you have a video how it should look like?
-
i just watched your
"World's Best FPV RC Helicopter Video Of The First Flight Hour, Failed Fail Compilation October 2010"
your horizon flattened out a little bit but you still have a lot of "artifacting" in your resolution.
i have used that sony cam before with better results (not perfect though).
i use it for fpv downlink so i can fly but for recorded video i have a sony hdr cx7 handy cam.
it weighs a pound but my airframe is a 12' tele so i have lots of payload.capacity.
These videos are amazing, congratulations!
One question, how can you tell if the aircraft is going out of range when you don't look at it but look through it's perspective?

@locouk It's out of range if I can't control it anymore or the video link got lost
There is also the distance to the base station on the screen
