Hope in a godless universe (pt2 - 2nd postcard from the river Lethe).

A meditation on Ernest Becker's heroics-

IF we prove unequal to the worlds current set of challenges humanity will survive a purged with eyes focused earthward rather than heavenward.
Each of us is - for now - the last link in a chain rooted in congealed star dust & which reach on to a destiny beyond our conception. Its not what we are FOR, its what we ARE!




We are NOT doomed to Beckers 1974 re-imagining a new heroism to validate our long-denied nothingness where looking into the horror of the abyss emptied of comforting illusions is the only real heroic act.
Instead there is a radical PRAXIX of deconstructing absolutes in a way postmodernism didnt - where the abyss is not threatening & reimaging heroism is not required - because there is no abyss.
So, we can no more stop hope than we can stop humanity. There is NO possibility of despairing of the life force, the eros, that has always called us forth from the mud.

Wonderful video, full of good, useful thoughts about evolution, about human natures, the human condition, the future of humans. Thought I liked: "This charnel house of ancestral bones is not our prison, it's our launching pad." And "It's not what we are for, it's what we are." Also "There is no abyss."
