Yasmin Alem, author of Duality by Design: The Iranian Electoral System; Barbara Slavin, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and author of Bitter Friends, Bosom enemies: Iran, the U.S. and the Twisted Path to Confrontation; and, Andrew Reynolds, associate professor of Political Science, The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, discuss Iran's electoral system and whether it can be a vehicle for true democracy. The panelists address these issues taking into consideration the protests following Iran's June 2009 presidential elections. This discussion was based on Alem's book, which provides an overview of Iran's electoral system, and was released on the day of the event.
The event is moderated by John D. Lawrence, Congressional Affairs Manager, IFES.
