Nobody else is trailing Menchov on 7kg bikes with 20mm slicks ;)

good point, however there are many others who follow on bikes and cars which theoretically might have slipped or skidded likewise.

There are many reasons to debunk the oil theory, but the fact that nobody else slipped there isn't one of them. The race leader is the last to ride the time trial, so of course no one else suffered the same fate.

unlikely, as no one else after him suffered the same fate apart from all the security surrounding the course. cycling with highly inflated tires over wet cobble stones is like riding over a greased surface. it happened to me on a bike once.
