By far the easiest way to tame gerbils is by the babies learning from the mother and father. Remove anything in the tank (so you are the most fun climbing object) and, wearing a long sleeve, rest your arm in the tank. Be very, very still and keep your arm angled at a gentle slope so that the little ones can climb up. Here you see Eclispe the black mom coming out first, then you see Harmonics the lilac dad coming up, then an older brother from the previous litter comes out, and finally a little black gerbil pup just five weeks old follows up the arm and out of the tank. The babies in the litter are black and lilac and one is a red fox.

  • How many r in there?!?!

  • A mom, a dad, and a litter of babies. They were five weeks old and went to their adoptive home the weekend after the video was made. Hand tamed babies are very easy to place.

  • you have to get a bigger terrarium to them..

  • I like to breed in a 10 gallon; to keep the parents focused. These babies all were moved to a nursery tank and then place in pairs in new homes.

The parents have a two week old litter of 4 now

  • I wish I could do this... My gerbils not too long had a fight and had to be separated (both males). Since then, the submissive one has been one moody little bugger and hasn't let me near him once. Even giving him a new toy or cleaning his food is a chore - he charges towards your hand to give you a bite. And of course the food and water are changed daily! So my poor fingers are covered in bites and scratches :(

The little sod can't be sociable and nice like his brother!

  • @fruitrollups100 Feed the mom a little bit of boiled egg and she wont "eat" her babies. Mealworms are an option but boiled eggs are easier to get.

  • @RobRoy316 no gerbils sometimes eat there babys if they dont have alot of protein !They have to eat mealworms if they r expectting babiees!

  • @viewtifulethan90 no if they dont eat mealworms (need protein) !then they eat there own babys

  • @RobRoy316 the babies were probably sick they only eat babies of they are sick

  • 2 days ago, I got 2 females (aged 6-7 weeks). It's the first time I've ever had gerbils and I'd to train them to climb onto my hand so I can pick them up. I'm really frightened of hurting them...Any advice welcome!

  • I would like to breed my two gerbils. I have deffinitely identified their sex, and they are both a year and a half. I heard, from the previous owner, that they had babies once, but ate them. I don't know if this is true (as the last owner thought they were Degus!!) but if it is true, is it possible to breed them without this happening? Can I raise the pups myself? Or was that just circumstancial, and I may not have to worry about it this time? THANKS!!

  • there reallly cool.

    love gerbils too!!
