Michael is a great player.Such ravishing phrasing and tone. His genius and musicality moves me just as much if not more than Segovias and thats saying something! he, just like segovia, conveys something magical and extra special when he plays which is truly rare. I feel honoured to have watched and heard him. Bravo to yet another youtube guitar genius. But hey, there can never be too many for me.

People going to Segovia's master classes expect his feedback. It isn't like Segovia walked into someone's concert and criticized him. They are looking for critical feedback that will help them hone their skill. If all Segovia did was sit back and applaud, they wouldn't have anything for their effort but an autograph. Segovia is not being arrogant or rude. Rude is when you play for your end-of-term juries & the professors are chatting and checking their email on their phones.

"aie donte laike dizze pize, plplplplplll tauld him manny taimz, anda hi agrid, haha..." what a fuck'n arrogant prick segovia is

Chapdelaine plays flawless. Better than Segovia himself.

@toffetoff wtfru talking about ?? please post a video explaining what you mean ?

@LutenistDeMari I totally agree. Segovia elevated the guitar but did not create definitive interpretations. Segovia may be a starting point but hardless the colossus many here make him out to be. He never was the grand master, just one of the first. Bream, Williams, Russell and many more of the following generation are better players and interpretters.

Thank goodness we have evolved well beyond Segovia's interpretations The point of the masterclass is not "my way or the highway" but rather to develop the player. I give MC great for following his own path and declaring about his own choice of fingering, "I think it's good." Segovia's response makes me cringe, "I no like it..." without a reason why. Instead we just get sulen petulance from Segovia for the rest of the class. Regardless of being part of history, others surpass his playing

@alex86730 He forgot that when he was just a boy that came out of the bushes, a well known luthier that believed in him, put his ego apart (if he happened to have any) and give segovia one of his guitars, which was a demonstration of having some values... but it seems he didn´t pick up that little detail... anyway, it´s my opinion. I just fell compelled to say something.
-
@alex86730 I particulary think he was pretty much an asshole when he wanted. he could have said things in a polite way without putting him down in front of all the people, which is not a good thing. For instance, Tommy Emmanuel, not only he is the best acoustic guitarist ever, he is a very cool and humble guy. If we have to speak about ego battles... segovia needs another big room for his ego itself.
he wasn't an asshole, he was acting the way he did so chapdelaine could improve. chapdelaine himself said that he came there just to play for segovia, not to learn...segovia was critical to break down his ego and show him that he still could learn...10 years of experience vs 70+..cmon..

@navazguitar It's arrogant to assume that Segovia's fingerings are definitive and there are no other options that are just as good, if not better.
