Sorry about the audio. I know it's bad, but I don't have any way of getting anything better quality right now.

So this is short explanation of how to convert a Molex connector from a computer power supply to something that is compatible with the power connector from an Xbox 360 DVD drive. Once that is done, all you need to do is connect the DVD drive to your computer via a SATA cable, and put your DVD drive in mode B (Google mode B if you don't know how to do that. There's a bunch of tutorials out there on how to do it).

The schematic for the Molex to 360 drive connector can be viewed here:
http://thirdgen.net16.net/xbox360_schematic.pdf

Materials Needed:
- 1 protoboard ($1.99 at Radioshack)
- 6 330 Ohm resistors ($0.99 for a pack of five at Radioshack)
- Soldering Iron
- Solder
- Wires (make sure they're small enough to fit the holes on your protoboard)
- Male Molex Connector (you can cut one off of a CPU fan. They cost like $4 at Radioshack
- Hot Glue Gun (Recommended)
- Xbox 360 DVD Drive

  • How come you're sending 3.3v to pin 3? I thought to eject the drive you just had to connect that pin to ground.

  • @echeese Yes, you ground that pin when and only when you want to eject/close the drive. Otherwise, you want to send 3.3 V.

  • I think I understand now.. are these 3 resistors in series? just joined in a row? so say you got +5v vcc you would have the first set of three resistors all joined together on the other end of the last resistor (3rd one) its joined to the pin 8 of the dvd connector which also is soldered to pin 6 and pin 4, im asuming the drives gnd which is built on the main board for the drive. The second wave of three resistors is also connected to this right? but on the end is soldered to a switch for eject

  • @kennydude19 check out the video response that I posted. Hopefully that will answer your questions.

  • Hi, worked well and its all hooked up but the computer isn't showing it can you please help? thanks.

  • @jordangamm What type of DVD drive did you get from the Xbox 360? Did you put it into mode B?

  • Excellent job. Just what I have been looking for. I have it all set up and working fine except for my switch I have used a tactile microswitch instead of a SPDT for the eject. When I hit the tactile switch the dvd draw opens but it will only close when I hold the switch down. If I release the switch it will eject again. Holding onto the switch is the only way to keep the draw closed. Any ideas on this one? Its a Samsung drive so no need to gnd pin 4

  • will 360 games work?

  • You need a better diagram, I sort of understand most of it but the voltage divider part is confusing me like hell. Why can you not just draw where the resistors go, that would make more logical sense. Could you please do a new diagram so i can understand where there is supposed to be a resistor. Simply just putting a box title voltage divider isn't helping lol I can see the diagram that explain the voltage divider but i cannot quite make it all out

  • Hi, how do i put it in to mode b?

  • @trilogy3iii Samsung TS-H943A/ MCAH 6RDA101010 F/W=MS25 H/W:005 ver.a January 2006 Part Number X800473-016 that's all the details I could find off it and no I didn't put it in mode B how do I do that?
